Not Suitable for Domestic Use. Incandescent lamps produce light when the electric current passing through the tungsten filament (inside the bulb) makes it glow, bringing it to a temperature of approximately 2700 K. When the lamp is switched on, the filament is cold and its resistance is low, causing a current surge lasting a few tenths of a second, with a value 10-12 times the normal operating current. The new incandescent bulbs for traffic lights contain a low-pressure gas that provides 10% higher output and keeps heat levels low, preventing the lamp installed inside the sealed unit, without air, from damaging the unit or being damaged itself.
